Efektivitas Penerapan Batuk Efektif Pada Pasien Penyakit Paru Obstruktif Kronik (PPOK) Dalam Studi Kasus Di Rojinhome Inahokai Shunkaen Okinawa Jepang

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a leading cause of death globally, characterized by progressive airflow limitation and ineffective airway clearance due to mucus hypersecretion. Objective: This study aims to describe the effectiveness of effective coughing techniques in managing ineffective airway clearance in a COPD patient at Rojinhome Inahokai Shunkaen, Okinawa, Japan. Methods: A descriptive case study design was employed, focusing on an 82-year-old male patient (Mr. T) with a 30-year history of heavy smoking. The nursing process included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation over a three-day period. Results: On the first day, the patient presented with shortness of breath (RR 28x/min, SpO₂ 92%), difficulty expelling phlegm, and audible wheezing and rhonchi. Nursing interventions included monitoring respiratory patterns, providing semi-Fowler positioning, warm water intake, oxygen therapy, and teaching effective coughing techniques. After three days of intervention, the patient was able to perform effective coughing independently, phlegm became thinner and easier to expel, and respiratory status improved (RR 24x/min, SpO₂ 95%). Conclusion: The application of effective coughing significantly improves airway clearance and respiratory function in COPD patients. Consistent implementation and patient education are essential for maintaining optimal airway patency.
