New college students are in a crucial transition period from high school to university, which requires strong adaptation to new academic and social environments. Failure to adapt during this period may lead to various psychological issues, including loneliness and the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). This study aims to examine the relationship between loneliness and FoMO among first-year college students. The research employed a quantitative correlational design with 200 participants selected through an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected using validated and reliable loneliness and FoMO scales. The results indicate a positive and significant correlation between loneliness and FoMO (r = 0.483; p < 0.05), suggesting that the higher the level of loneliness experienced by new students, the higher their tendency to experience FoMO. These findings highlight that social connectedness plays an essential role in supporting students’ psychological well-being during the transition to higher education. The implication of this study emphasizes the importance of social support and psychological interventions to help new students adapt more effectively to university life.
