Body shaming is an increasingly common social phenomenon among adolescent girls, particularly during late adolescence when individuals are forming their identity and are highly influenced by social evaluations of physical appearance. Experiences of body shaming may lead to negative psychological outcomes, including decreased self-esteem. This study aimed to examine the relationship between body shaming and self-esteem among late adolescent girls. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants were 118 female adolescents aged 16–20 years living in Bekasi City, selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were the State Self-Esteem Scale to measure self-esteem and the Body Image Shame Scale to assess body shaming experiences. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rank correlation. The results revealed a very significant relationship between body shaming and self-esteem among late adolescent girls. The study concludes that body shaming is an important psychosocial factor related to self-esteem development, highlighting the need for preventive efforts and psychological interventions to reduce its negative impact.
