The global energy transition and production quota restrictions demand precise subsurface coal resource evaluation, particularly in the structurally complex South Sumatra Basin. Fluctuating paleotopography and high dip angles (12°–30°) in the Muara Enim Formation cause significant up-dip shallowing and lateral thinning. Consequently, stochastic estimation methods often generate artificial extrapolation (smoothing effect) in blind spots, leading to fatal resource overestimation. To address this gap, this study proposes a deterministic spatial modeling approach integrating sedimentological genesis with the USGS Circular 1983 method, calibrated against the SNI 5015:2019 standard for moderate geological complexity. Stratigraphic correlation and spatial quantification were executed using 23 drill hole data points at PT Sumber Cahaya Mineral, Jambi. The 3D stratigraphic architecture reveals that Seam AD (upper) formed in an upper delta plain, while Seam AF (lower) originated from a fluvial avulsion backswamp. Deterministic restrictions yield 3.93 million tons of clean reserves for Seam AD and a more geologically stable 4.44 million tons for Seam AF. Geotechnical-economic analysis identified extreme stripping ratios of 23.21 BCM/Ton for Seam AD and 14.06 BCM/Ton for Seam AF. The findings prove that deterministic constraints prevent volumetric illusions in dipping back-arc basins, demonstrating that the economic viability of multi-seam open-pit mining strictly relies on the volumetric subsidization from massive lower seams.
