Abstract

The existence of local Betawi history is currently facing the challenge of a decline in collective memory due to massive urbanization, globalization, and modernization, as well as the unavailability of literacy media suitable for the cognitive style of Generation Alpha. Therefore, this research aims to examine in depth the impact of cultural digitalization on the interest in Betawi historical literacy among Generation Alpha, as well as to formulate relevant digital media adaptation strategies. This research employs a literature review method with a descriptive qualitative approach. The secondary data search was conducted through the Scopus and Google Scholar academic databases, which were subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results of the literature synthesis indicate that media adaptation based on immersive technology (Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality), gamified applications, and digital storytelling are the most effective instruments. The implementation of these technologies is proven to have an impact in transforming learners (Generation Alpha) into active participants, strengthening emotional connections, and optimizing long-term knowledge retention up to 80%. As an implementation strategy, the transformation of Betawi historical narratives is recommended to utilize an integrative pedagogical framework, the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) that is ethically validated by cultural experts, and the organization of intergenerational co-creation workshops. Furthermore, the development of location-based AR applications in cultural heritage areas is recommended as a preservation solution.
